'APORIA,' defined:
- I. originally used in reference to the point of unknowing in Socratic dialogues: when the intelocutor (i.e., not
- Socrates
) experiences the epiphany of realizing that they actually have no idea about whatever it was that they thought they were trying to say.
- II. contemporary uses often refer to post-structualism's #GreatBoy Derrida. in this context, 'aporia' signifies a sort of "impasse" at which point the text has contradicted "its own rhetorical structure," and in so doing falls to destruction. (maybe just derrida reflecting on the experience of trying to read his own writing, perhaps?!!)
